Civic Engagement and Partnership Coordinator

What We're Looking For

MetroLab Network is a Washington DC non-profit that lives in the center of positive community impact by way of local government and universities working on innovation together. A growing organization, we are looking for a candidate who is interested in the future of cities and civic research. MetroLab works with a variety of key partners, including federal agencies, foundations, and conveners. This role will focus on managing programs and executing grant deliverables, particularly on first-of-their-kind projects. The candidate should be an organized, detail-oriented, and creative professional who is a reliable self-starter.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Project management for the Civic Innovation Challenge, a project supported by the National Science Foundation.
  • Event coordination, including conferences, workshops, and panels, specifically related to the Civic Innovation Challenge. 
  • Designing the agenda and structure for Civic Innovation Challenge events and providing strategic feedback on engaging audiences.
  • Coordinating communications for the various programs and organizations.
    • Building websites and tools needed for teams to thrive
  • Support the development of the Civic Innovation Challenge cohort.
    • Publishing project details and updates, planning cohort events and communications
    • Building prototypes/proofs of concepts such as an online project library
  • Documenting processes, program evaluation criteria and considerations, and supporting report deliverables.
  • Scheduling meetings, events, and speaking engagements.
  • Preparation of briefing materials, presentations, written remarks, talking points, and agendas.
  • Support as needed to the MetroLab team and mission.


  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, urban planning, urban studies, information systems, or other relevant fields and/or experience. 
  • 2-5 years of experience in policy development, local government, project management, and/or other relevant experience.
  • Experience with various software, web, and social media platforms.
    • Tech literacy that solves problems rapidly, such as quickly developing new websites or videos
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites.
  • Demonstrated experience with WordPress and Twitter strongly preferred.
  • A strong writer on various deliverables; presentation development, writing reports, editing blog posts, and social media support.
  • Meticulous organization and attention to detail is critical. Highlighting experience in this area is strongly encouraged.
  • Experience working with or for a local government is preferred but not required.


Washington, DC. Please note: we are in a changing work environment. MetroLab currently has a hybrid office/remote work model. This role will be expected to be in Washington DC, but we understand if it may take a few months to relocate while working remotely if needed.


You must be authorized to work in the United States. 

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $75,000, depending on a candidate’s experience.  Position includes paid-time off, employer-sponsored health care, dental, and retirement account. This position will be funded by external sources and is therefore subject to the availability of those funds.
